Building the Future: How AI is Revolutionizing the Construction Industry – 24 Feb

As part of the CIB President’s seminar series Prof Robert Amor of the University of Auckland, New Zealand will be delivering the seminar on 24th February.

Abstract

AI’s impact on society has been in the news with the release of tools such as ChatGPT. These tools are proving incredibly able in many domains, for example, this presentation’s title was suggested by ChatGPT. The CIB W78 community has been investigating AI approaches for architecture, engineering, construction and operations for decades. This presentation will review the progress that is being made by the W78 community through AI approaches and how AI is in fact revolutionizing the construction industry as ChatGPT suggests.

Biography

Professor Robert Amor has degrees in Computer Science and undertakes research in the field of Construction Informatics, with a passion for the application of beneficial computer science techniques to the Architectural, Engineering, Construction and Operations industries. Achieving interoperability is his core research interest and to achieve this he investigates integrated environments which covers information modelling (e.g., BIM), automated code compliance checking, process modelling, user interaction, information mapping, and communication strategies. Since 2003 he has coordinated the working group CIB W78 (IT for Construction) for the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB). He is also Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Information Technology in Construction.
