Purpose

CIB’s purpose is to provide a global network for international exchange and cooperation in building and construction research and innovation. This global network supports an improved building process and enhanced performance of the built environment.

We characterise this as follows:

CIB stands for “Collaborating for Innovation in the Built environment”.

Scope

The scope of CIB covers the technical, economic, environmental, organizational and other aspects through all stages of the built environment life cycle. It addresses all steps in the process of basic and applied research, documentation and transfer of the research results, and the implementation and actual application of them.

Objectives

CIB’s objectives are to be:

  • a valued source of information concerning worldwide building and construction research and innovation;
  • an effective access point to the global research community; and
  • a forum for collaboration between the entire spectrum of building and construction interests and the global research community.

In achieving these objectives, CIB shall promote collaboration with relevant national and international organisations for universal benefit.

CIB can act as a platform for every person that wants to improve their own performance in the field of building and construction research and innovation through international co-operation and information exchange.

As long as the organisation is involved in building and construction research and innovation, it makes no difference whether such a person is employed by a research institute, a construction company, a university, a governmental agency or by any other type of organization.

Although most CIB members are organisations, the CIB community places great emphasis on the interests of individuals. As such, another way to characterise CIB is as follows:

CIB is a worldwide network of building and construction experts who improve their day-to-day performance through international co-operation and information exchange with their peers.
