Introduction for the article:

The Fourth Industrial Revolution started to transform the Construction industry. Construction 4.0 (C4)  can advocate this change to become a more efficient cyber-physical ecosystem. However, technology alone will not solve all challenges. While research on C4 focuses mainly on technology, management also plays a key role. We asked experienced company executives worldwide for their opinions on digital transformation in the CI. Research proves that it is not just a technology but primarily a management and strategic challenge.

The construction industry (CI) is ancient and has evolved along with humanity, yet it has become increasingly inefficient due to fragmentation, the use of traditional solutions and the lack of innovative technologies and methodologies which are no longer sustainable. The Fourth Industrial Revolution has started to transform this industry, and Construction 4.0 (C4) can advocate this change to become a more efficient cyber-physical ecosystem. Orsolya has just recently joined CIB’s ECR Network and is currently a third-year PhD student at Corvinus University of Budapest, Department of Economics and Business Informatics. Prior to her PhD, she completed her MSc in civil engineering at Budapest University of Technology and Economics. She continued her learning journey and finished her MBA also. During her MBA studies, she recognized the opportunities offered by digital transformation in the construction industry, which led her to write her diploma thesis about Digital Innovation in Construction Industry Supply Chain. She continued her research in the digital transformation of the construction industry and during her PhD Construction 4.0 management aspects became her main research field. Currently, she is developing an ontology for the Construction 4.0 digital maturity.
