2022 CIB Sebestyén Future Leaders Award winner – Massey University

CIB is pleased to announce Massey University’s Student Chapter as the 2022 CIB Sebestyén Future Leaders Award winner.  Their study “Lessons learned from the impact of Covid-19 – A case study of skill shortage on the construction workforce” was endorsed by Working Commissions W123, People in Construction and W055, Construction Industry Economics.   The study’s overarching question is “How has COVID-19 impacted the current skill shortage in the construction workforce?”.  To answer this question, they aim to achieve the following objectives:

  1. To examine the impact the current COVID-19 pandemic has on the existing skill shortage in the construction industry.
  2. To identify improvement opportunities towards mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on skill shortage in the construction workforce.
  3. To develop a recovery guideline that informs the NZ government’s construction spending policy post COVID.

When the project is complete, the Chapter’s report on the outcome of the project will be published along with a CIB news article.  The Chapter will also host a webinar to disseminate the results to the CIB community.
