From the Board – Q&A with Patricia Tzortzopoulos

The CIB Board consists of a broad range of individuals who hold senior leadership positions within their countries’ research and/or academic communities.

Each month we’ll introduce a Board member and ask them 3 questions on their organisation, how they see the benefits of CIB, and what they would like to achieve through the organisation in the coming years.

In this post we hear from Patricia Tzortzopoulos of Huddersfield University in the United Kingdom. She is a Vice President of CIB and Director of the Innovative Design Lab research center.

How would you describe your day job and areas of research interest?

I am a Professor of Integrated Design, Head of Department for Design and Built Environment, and Director of the Innovative Design Lab research center at the School of Arts and Humanities, University of Huddersfield, UK. In my role, I provide strategic direction and oversee teaching and research developments, as well as external collaborations across the Department. My research interests cover Design Management, Lean Design and Construction, Value generation, Building Information Modelling, mostly in the application areas of social housing and healthcare facilities.

What is your role on the CIB Board and how do you see the priorities?

My role in the CIB is of vice president, which is a role I’m honored to have. We are currently working towards supporting the main aims of the CIB as a truly international network of building and construction experts, aiming to increase its global profile and reach especially in new areas. I’m also leading an international group of Women in Architecture and Construction, with the purpose of identifying and implementing approaches to attracting women to the industry and academia, and to support women already working within the sector, and as such, support inclusivity and diversity. We are also working towards increasing the engagement of students and early career researchers with the CIB, providing new avenues for engagement.

How would you promote the value of CIB to someone thinking about joining?

The CIB provides an excellent avenue to share ideas and to understand current research and challenges in the built environment, globally; to find out what the latest research agendas and trends are; it enables the identification of collaborators for international research bids and projects; and it provides a number of exciting early career researcher activities, including networking, workshops, and summer schools.
