Prof Dongping Fang of Tsinghua University’s School of Civil Engineering has been elected as the 27th President of the CIB by its General Assembly held at Purdue University on 20th May 2025 during the CIB’s World Building Congress. His term of office will be three years.

Professor Fang has been with the School of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University for 30 years and holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Xi’an Jiaotong University and a Masters and Doctorate from Iwate and Kyushu universities in Japan. He also holds positions of Honorary Professor at The University of Hong Kong in China and UCL in the UK. His research interests include construction safety and urban resilience. Dongping served as Programme Committee Chair of CIB from 2010 to 2013, Vice President of CIB from 2013 to 2016, and was most recently a Board member from 2022.
In his acceptance speech Prof Fang said:
“I pay tribute to Mark Hastak who has served the CIB as President with great style and dedication. I plan to build on his efforts to improve the profile and impact of CIB, and to make it one of the best organizations to serve the building and construction industry.”
Outgoing President Prof Makarand Hastak of Purdue University said:
“I have greatly enjoyed my three years as President and would like to thank all the Board and Committee members for their commitment to CIB and the value of research and innovation in the built environment sector. Together we have achieved a lot and I could not have asked for a better team to work with.”

New CIB Board elected until 2028

The General Assembly of the members of CIB held at Purdue University on 20th May 2025 during the CIB’s World Building Congress WBC2025 elected the new Board of CIB to serve for three years. This page gives full details of the new Officers and other Board members.
The election follows a call for nominations issued in September 2024. The new Board features six women and fifteen men from seventeen different countries across six continents.
