The 2022 World Building Congress kicked off on Monday 27 June with RMIT host Professor Ron Wakefield and CIB President Professor Keith Hampson delivering opening addresses to a full capacity Storey Hall Auditorium.
A Welcome to Country, a formal ceremony which highlighted the cultural significance of the surrounding area to the Aboriginal clan or language group recognised as traditional owners of the land, was delivered.
An appearance by Victorian State Treasurer, Tim Pallas, and an inspiring opening keynote on how infrastructure is being planned and delivered in Victoria and how this infrastructure will contribute to Victoria’s future from Corey Hannett. CIB CEO Don Ward led an engaging Q & A with Corey Hannett following the opening.
There was certainly an invigorating feeling from many World Building Congress attendees about being together for the first time in over 2 years. Old colleagues and friends met, and new collaborators were introduced.
Conference attendees dispersed to parallel sessions led by CIB’s Tasks Groups and Working Commissions. On-line participants and speakers engaged with in-person attendees. The in-person attendees continued their networking at Melbourne’s Town Hall.
