The request for proposals (RFP) for the next round of Regional and World Sustainable Built Environment (SBE) conferences 2025-26 has just been released by the SBE Partners and Permanent Co-hosts, consisting of CIB, UN Environment Programme, FIDIC – International Federation of Consulting Engineers and International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment.
Stage 1 proposals are due 01 April 2024. Successful regional or national SBEs for 2025 will be announced by the end of that month and the successful WSBE26 will be announced on 14 June 2024, the last day of the current WSBE24 event.
The WSBE24 conference program, a virtual event in the current round, is an exciting mix of plenary talks, roundtables or forums and technical sessions on pathways and partnerships for sustainable built and urban environments. For more details and announcements, visit the WSBE24 site https://www.wsbe24.org/ and/or the Sustainable Built Environment conferences site https://sbe-series.org.

Background
The SBE series was launched in 2000 and is now well-established as a leading international series of conferences focusing on sustainable built environment. The series follows a three-year cycle.
Although the SBE partners are responsible for overall management, planning and management of the individual conferences is the responsibility of the selected proponent organizations, which feature research institutes and/or universities in leading roles.
SBE places a core emphasis on papers that undergo double-blind peer-review. The events include presentations of regional policy papers, displays of pre-evaluated projects and a small number of high-quality commercial exhibits.
The Covid-19 pandemic has created problems for all conferences and several organisers in the SBE series have been forced to delay their events, but we will be able to launch the 2025-26 cycle on schedule.
