I am pleased to have completed an intense drafting process developing the Sustainable Building and Construction (SBC) Mainstreaming and Advocacy Toolkit.
UN-Habitat, UNEP and UNOPS are collaborating to support countries in integrating resource efficiency into building’s life cycles. They are developing tools and information which can be used by UN country teams to support governments in transforming their buildings and construction sector.
One of these tools is a Sustainable Building and Construction (SBC) Mainstreaming and Advocacy Toolkit that I have been developing. The toolkit has the following main components:
- SBC Key Messages: This identifies key SBC messages which can be used to raise awareness and mobilize public and private decision-makers from the buildings and construction value chain.
- Advocacy Alliances: Here guidance is provided on stakeholder value chain mapping and assessing and developing networks to support the formation of advocacy alliances in the buildings and construction sector.
- Engaging Policy Makers: This provides direction on planning engagements with policymakers and legislators in relevant sectors, and conducting effective lobbying, to embed sustainable building practices.
