The CIB Student Chapters Committee awarded 2 collaborative proposals from student chapters for 2021.
Proposal 1
- RMIT University, School of Property Construction and Project Management
- Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Department of Building and Real Estate
- Massey University, School of Built Environment
- Tsinghua University, School of Civil Engineering
- University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Architecture
- Western Sydney University, School of Built Environment
The research aims to better understand stakeholders’ (i.e., education institute, industry employer and students) perceptions on current Higher Degree by Research (HDR) training programs and their expectations for potential improvement. All participating student chapters are expected to conduct 25-30 interviews and provide translated interview transcripts before Feb 2022. Based on both the interview and the feedback from industry and universities, the research team will understand the challenges faced by HDR training in Built Environment and how to improve the training for the candidates in the context of this fast-evolving research field and industry. The results of this collaborative study will inform the employability workshops during the CIB World Building Congress (WBC) 2022.
Proposal 2
- University of Salford, UK
- Politecnico di Milano, Italy
The aim of the proposed activity is to link the perspectives of ECRs, practitioners, and entrepreneurs to the ongoing global conversations on post-COVID evolution in the construction industry. A two-day virtual forum that brings together key perspectives from different countries and professions related to construction to explore the effects and aspirations of actors from academia, practice and entrepreneurial businesses is proposed. The research will provide a global forum for networking among stakeholders in the built environment such as ECR, academics, and entrepreneurs. The research will generate the following five outcomes:
- Virtual 2-day forum event for ECRs, young academics and construction industry stakeholders.
- A comprehensive proceedings report including research and panel recommendations, results from focus group discussions and ECRs research presented at the event.
- An academic journal paper on inclusion of ECRs in formulating new directions in construction, to be published in a CIB recognised/encouraged journal.
- A CIB newsletter article summarising the research process and findings.
- A presentation of the results of this initiative at CIB WC2022.
