Fred Sherratt – BIM, AI and Energy-Based Safety: Balancing Control in the Realization of SIF-Free Construction

The theory of energy-based safety enables us to focus on SIF reduction in the construction industry.  However, embedding this theory within BIM and leveraging the potential of AI to facilitate such a focus and help shape design has yet to be achieved.  Indeed, how we will be able to practically optimize the use of BIM and AI for safety still raises questions and concerns, as something easily achieved in the virtual world cannot always be easily (and safely) achieved irl.  Dr Sherratt will explore this potential, but also the challenges that emerge and how we can best balance control when we are seeking SIF-free construction through the hybrid reality space that is BIM.
