Six leading organizations are joining forces to accelerate the transition towards a circular economy in the construction sector. We would like to invite you to attend the online launch event of the Circular Buildings Coalition (CBC) on 4 October 2022, 16:00-17:00 (CEST), at which we will introduce the founding partners, the goals of the Circular Buildings Coalition, and the ways in which we hope to support other organisations and change makers through our work.
To limit global warming to 1.5°C (Paris Agreement), the building sector needs to reduce its emissions by 77% by 2050 compared to today’s level. We will need to speed up the adoption of circular economy practices in construction to make this possible. This is why six leading organisations in the circular economy sector are launching a new initiative to address the systemic challenges that obstruct the adaptation of circular principles in the construction sector: the Circular Buildings Coalition. The joining parties include World Green Building Council (WGBC), World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), Ellen McArthur Foundation (EMF) in collaboration with Arup, Circle Economy and Metabolic. The coalition is supported by Laudes Foundation.
The Circular Buildings Coalition will address the following challenges that impede the construction sector from becoming more circular:
1) Our finance system, which is not conducive to the development of a circular building industry;
2) Ownership models that incentivize short profits over long-term, sustainable management of buildings and materials;
3) Stagnant market dynamics that make it very difficult for secondary and renewable materials markets to emerge.
Want to know more about how they plan to do this? Do you have solutions that will help address these systemic challenges? Register now to join our launch and webinar.
Kind regards,
On behalf of the CBC members,
Job Papineau Salm
