Call for Proposals Deadline 25 March 2022
CIB Student Chapters are invited to submit a proposal for a research project for the 2022 CIB Sebestyén Future Leaders Award.
Background
The purpose of the Award is to expose future leaders of the building sector to the latest developments in building research. A proposal for the Award will only be considered if the CIB Student Chapter concerned actively collaborates with one or more CIB Working Commissions (WC) and/or Tasks Groups (TG) in the development and execution of the proposal and if the proposal supports the Work Program of a WC/TG. The proposal should demonstrate a new collaborative link between student(s) and the WC/TG.
Preferred Scope
Proposals around any research area in the built environment sector are welcome; however, they must be connected to work of the CIB WC/TG.
Award
The Award for the winning proposal will be a sum of €2,500 payable in two equal amounts, the first on award and the second on submission of an acceptable final report (see below).
Generating a Proposal
Proposals submitted by CIB Student Chapters will be to carry out an agreed project with a CIB WC/TG. The proposals will include evidence that the Chapter has discussed and agreed the nature of the task(s) with the relevant WC/TG. Once a Chapter has finalized a description of the project in collaboration with the relevant WC/TG and has obtained the agreement and support of the Coordinator(s) in writing, that Chapter can enter a proposal for the Award.
Submission of Proposals
There is a limit to ONE (1) proposal per Student Chapter. Therefore, the Student Chapter may need to coordinate and select the best proposal from their University.
Proposals must:
- describe in detail the task the Chapter and the WC/TG have agreed will be carried out by the Chapter;
- include a statement/letter from the relevant WC/TG Coordinator certifying that the Chapter has actively collaborated with the WC/TG in developing the Proposal and that agreement has been reached between the parties as to the description of the task;
- descibe how the proposal demonstrates a new collaborative link between the Student Chapter and relevant WC/TG; and,
- state a date on which a report on the outcome of the Proposal will be submitted to CIB for publication in a CIB Newsletter. This should be no later than 12 months after confirmation of the Award, but preferably by end 2022.

Proposal Assessment
The judging panel, to be appointed by the CIB Student Chapters Committee, will assess proposals on the extent to which they are likely to contribute to the following, as appropriate:
- promotion of CIB and its objectives;
- stimulation and facilitation of information exchange between existing CIB Student Chapters and the established senior researchers and research leaders in CIB demonstrate a new collaborative link;
- demonstrates a new collaborative link between student(s) and the demonstrate a new collaborative link;
- stimulation and facilitation of cooperation in research and other activities carried out by students and staff related to CIB Student Chapters.
The judges will take account of:
- the practical feasibility of the Proposal as demonstrated in the proposal and endorsed by the relevant demonstrate a new collaborative link;
- the likelihood that the project described in the proposal will be completed within 12 months from the judges’ decision, preferably within the calendar year 2022;
- writing style, readability, and flow; impact; and originality and creativity.
Announcement of the Winner
The Chapter whose Proposal is judged to be the winner will be notified no later than 15 April 2022. The Award will be publicised in the CIB Newsletter as soon as possible after that date.
Reporting
The winner of the Award will be required to report on the project immediately after its completion. The relevant demonstrate a new collaborative link Coordinator will be invited to provide comment on that report.
When the project is complete, the Chapter’s report on the outcome of the project is expected to be published along with a CIB news article. The Chapter is also expected to host a webinar to disseminate the results to the CIB community.
