Introducing Bart Bleys – CIB Board member

Introducing Bart Bleys – CIB Board member

CIB Board members are appointed for a three year, and eligible to serve for two terms. The 2025-2028 Board members wre appointed at the General Assembly held during the World Building Congress. We welcome a number of new members, and are grateful to those who have previously served.

We have invited new Board members to introduce themselves, share their experience and vision for CIB during their term in office.

I am honoured that I have recently been appointed as a Board Member of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB), and entrusted with the role of Coordinator of CIB W062 – Water Supply and Drainage.

Bart Bleys – Buildwise, Belgium

My affiliation with CIB dates back to 2012, when I first participated in the CIB W062 symposium and was immediately impressed by the depth of scientific exchange and the collegiality of the network.

Since then, I joined the CIB W062 Scientific Committee in 2017, and had the privilege of hosting the 2023 edition in Leuven, Belgium.

This recognition marks an important milestone in a professional journey that began in 2002 at SECO, and later BCCA, where I was active in the certification and inspection of construction products and systems. As Sector Responsible for Equipments, I worked extensively on regulatory compliance (CE marking) and voluntary quality schemes (ATG, BENOR), with a particular focus on systems used in sanitary installations and HVAC. These early experiences provided valuable technical insight into the quality and performance expectations. It also resulted in a good network within the pipe extrusion industry.

Since 2010, I have served at Buildwise as a researcher in the field of water supply and drainage in buildings. More recently I serve as Quality, Safety, Environment, Risk & Compliance Manager. In parallel, I coordinate the Technical Committee on Sanitary and Industrial Plumbing, which addresses issues such as domestic water distribution and drainage, rainwater harvesting, non-potable water reuse, DHW system performance, and hygienic design. Our mission includes the development of practical guidelines, dimensioning methods, and codes of good practice. Buildwise’s continuous engagement with field practitioners, especially contractors and installers aims to bridge research and industry implementation.

CIB affiliation

My affiliation with CIB dates back to 2012, when I first participated in the CIB W062 symposium and was immediately impressed by the depth of scientific exchange and the collegiality of the network. Since then, I joined the CIB W062 Scientific Committee in 2017, and had the privilege of hosting the 2023 edition in Leuven, Belgium.

In my dual role as W062 Coordinator and Board Member, I aim to foster continuity and innovation — building on the work of my predecessor Lynne Jack — while supporting CIB’s mission of advancing global construction knowledge. This will help to help to reinforce the link between the Working Commissions and the CIB Programme Committee and Board.

I appreciate the support and trust of the CIB community and aim to contribute to a technically robust, future-oriented agenda. I intend to help ensure the agenda addresses the realities and needs of industry stakeholders.
