The Vice Chancellor Professor Helen Marshall, Professor Hisham Elkadi, and the Directorate of Sustainable Built & Natural Environments (DSBNE) would like to invite you to a seminar at the University of Salford on the topic Pre-empting Construction Disputes.
This professional half day seminar will interest professionals from sectors across industry including construction, law, finance, architecture, property, and estates management.
The seminar will address how to avoid going to court for construction disputes from a wide range of perspectives. The seminar will be led by the Honourable Justice Brian Preston, Chief Judge FRSN SC of Land and Environment Court in New South Wales, Australia.
Speakers also include:
- Her Honour Frances Kirkham CBE, a TCC judge for many years as well as a long-standing international arbitrator and mediator, coroner in the Lakanal House inquest and Justice to the Qatar International Court;
- Professor Jose Torero, FRSE FRSN, Head of Civil Engineering at UCL who was heavily involved in the Grenfell Tower inquiry; and
- Adjunct Professor Kim Lovegrove, Chair of the International Building Quality Centre in Australia, a construction lawyer and regular senior law reform advisor to the World Bank.
The speakers will address issues related to the construction regulatory framework and some of the common causes of construction disputes (the traps) and how they might be avoided (the tips), providing examples from their extensive experience.
