Following a review of CIB Task Group activity, the Programme Committee recommended TG59, People in Construction, be upgraded to a permanent Working Commission. During our October 2020 Boar Meeting, the CIB Board approved W123, People in Construction, as a permanent Working Commission.
TG59 was established in 2004 and has continually been an active Task Group producing annual conferences and proceedings. The newly reconstituted Commission will be named W123, People in Construction, and will focus on ‘boots on the ground’ and frontline managers, professionals, and workers as the people in construction. Despite the advancement in technology and industrial revolutions, onsite construction remains labor-intensive where the contributions of people have a significant influence upon the project, organization, and industry performance. W123 will build upon the work and antecedent of TG59, will involve scholars and practitioner identifying as employers (public and private), contractors and developers, regulators (government or NGOs), all categories of people in construction operations (craft, technical, professional and managerial workers), and researchers in both developed and developing countries. The Commission will foster dialogue and collaboration among the people in construction. The work of the Commission will thus bring together researchers:
- Who will be mainly seeking to advance the performance and image of the industry with improved wellbeing and life of people engage in various activities on construction sites, and
- Whose aim is principally to improve the lives of the people who work on-site in construction.
NOTE: A CIB Task Group is an international grouping of experts established to promote joint international knowledge development, exchange of information, and the development of consensus in a built environment subject. It has a narrower scope and objective compared to a Working Commission and in principle is on completion of its task. A Task Group may also be the precursor to a new Working Commission.
