A Request for Proposals has been issued for the 2027-2028 round of Regional and World Sustainable Built Environment (SBE) conferences.
The SBE Conference Series, of which CIB is a partner, is the leading global platform, and one of the longest-running, for scientific and technical exchange on sustainable development and management of the built environment. It brings together top experts and the latest research and innovation to drive sustainability at every scale, from local communities to global initiatives, engaging all stakeholders across the built environment value chain. Whether addressing local or international challenges, SBE fosters collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders worldwide.
The SBE Partners and Permanent Co-hosts, consisting of the four international non-profit organisations below:

… are inviting proposals for the 2027-2028 cycle of the Regional and World Sustainable Built Environment, RSBE27s and WSBE28 Conferences, respectively.
The SBE Conference Series is the world’s premier – and one of the longest running – scientific and technical conference series that brings together the best expertise and the latest knowledge and research evidence to support sustainable development and management of the built environment at all scales1 in collaboration with stakeholders of the built environment value chain across the world – from local to national, regional and global, and vice versa.
With its global footprint, the SBE Conference Series is unique in running a linked set of various regional conferences in the year prior to a world conference in a 3-year cycle – the only continuous conference series on the topic that have been doing this since 20002!
Key dates
Regional SBEs
- 30 April 2026 – RSBE27 Stage 1 proposals due, but earlier EOI or discussions strongly recommended
- 30 May 2026 – RSBE27 full or detailed Stage 2 proposals due
- 12 June 2026 (latest) – Successful RSBE27 conference events announced
World WSBE
- 30 April 2026 – WSBE28 proposals due (Stage 1 only)
- 15 May 2026 – Selected WSBE28 proposals invited for Stage 2 submission informed; unsuccessful proposals in WSBE Stage 1 will be invited for consideration as RSBE27 events instead
- 30 May 2026 – Full WSBE28 Stage 2 proposals due and interview(s) organised
- 05 June 2026 – Successful WSBE28 proposal informed (privately)
- 12 June 2026 – Successful WSBE28 organiser announced and presented during the closing session of WSBE26
