The final day of WBC2022 opened with three keynote speakers, whose presentations were followed by an entertaining panel discussion chaired by Ron Wakefield of RMIT.:
- Alistair Gibb, Emeritus Professor at Loughborough University, reviewing a lifetime in research and CIB
- Chimay Anumba, Professor at Florida University,
- Jen Marks, Director of Strategy of Built, one of Australia’s largest construction companies and a much valued sponsor of the conference, Sue is also Chair of the Industry Advisory Committee for RMIT’s School of Property, Construction and Project Management.
Mark Hastak, CIB President
The closing plenary featured a presentation by Makarand (Mark) Hastak, newly-elected President of CIB, who gave effusive thanks to the RMIT organising team for WBC2022 led by Ron Wakefield and Erin Mellencamp for organising a great event. He then gave some insights into his priorities over the next three years under three headings:
- Membership growth
- New value-added propositions
- Growing CIB’s profile and influence.
Mark finished with two short videos on Indianapolis and the campus of Purdue University in Indiana, venues for the 23rd World Building Congress in May 2025.
Thank you to all attendees at WBC2022
We would like to express our thanks and appreciation to all those who attended WBC2022, whether online in person. In particular if we may, we thank those who committed to attend in person. The future of conferencing looks a little uncertain, but we are sure that those who made the effort to attend in person despite some residual concerns about Covid-19 demonstrated the real value which still exists from face-to-face connections. The early signs are that the feedback from WBC2022 is overwhelmingly positive, and we hope that researchers in our sector will redouble their resolve to attend key conferences face-to-face in the future.
