TG124 Information Session Update

TG124 Information Session Update

The new CIB task group “Net Zero Carbon Building Design and Construction Practices” (TG124) successfully held the first information session on 12th April. Around 40 attendees representing different regions participated in the two information sessions held by the task group coordinators. The task group aims to bring together the leading construction industry and other experts internationally to debate, research and reduce global construction emissions.

The focus of the information session was to discuss the task group scope and priorities, and activities for the next three years. The task group will primarily focus on global practices of net-zero carbon in both new and existing buildings, ranging from defining net-zero carbon to educating and upskilling the industry and other key stakeholders for the new transformation.

The main activities for the next three years discussed were conducting a global survey leading to publishing a book with key survey findings and organising a conference with a special journal issue. A further outcome of the information sessions was identifying many doctoral students researching this topic area and the possibility of forming a TG student/ECRs chapter.

The official task group launch will be on 28th June at 3.30 pm (Melbourne time) during the CIB World Building Congress. The task group coordinators welcome all CIB members actively researching zero carbon building design and construction to join the group to create a global community of practice around the theme area.
