So are you excited yet about the World Building Congress 2022 with less than 2 months to go? As of late April we have 350 registrations with about half attending in person, so please do all you can to help increase this number and in particular to ensure that we get over 200 in person in Melbourne to make sure we reward the efforts of the local organising team at RMIT led by Ron Wakefield and Erin Mellencamp.
Four days, ten parallel streams, over 400 papers, 9 keynote speakers, special sessions for students and early career researchers, and a formal dinner at Melbourne Town Hall are just some of the features to look forward to. Only the welcome reception and formal dinner will not be streamed live, all other sessions will be available live and for download soon afterwards for those not able to attend in person.
For a taster of what to expect you can see most of our keynote speakers in conversation with myself on the website, they all demonstrate that we can expect some great plenary sessions.
Just a reminder to all paper authors that these need to be formatted to the requirements of our Proceedings publisher IOP. Editing resources are not available in the conference team to assist with this so please make sure you meet the criteria and deadlines. We should emphasise that this is well worth the effort as 2022 will be the first time that the WBC proceedings have been published with Scopus indexing. We know there are also a number of special editions of CIB partner journals planned around the Congress – authors, don’t forget that any papers published there will need to be substantially different to those in the Proceedings.
Members’ Lead Representatives should also remember that the General Assembly of the CIB takes place during the Congress. Online participation will also be possible, watch out for the registration details. All Lead Representatives of CIB Members received the formal notice in March, and by the time you read this the deadline for extra nominations for the new Board has passed, so the proposed Officers and Board members for 2022-2025 are as per the Board Advice Note which was issued in March. This list includes our current Vice President, Professor Makarand (Mark) Hastak of Purdue University in the USA, as the proposed new President to succeed Keith Hampson. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know Mark better over the last few weeks, I hope you will be able to take every chance available to do likewise whether in person or online at WBC2022.
