Liaison Committee of International Associations of Civil Engineering

Amongst its various international collaborations, CIB has an official cooperation with five other organizations with whom it shares a membership of the Liaison Committee of International Associations of Civil Engineering. The other Member Associations of the Liaison Committee are:

  • CIB, Conseil International du Bâtiment
  • ECCS, European Convention for Construction Steelwork
  • FIB, Fédération Internationale du Béton
  • IABSE, International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering
  • IASS – International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures
  • RILEM, Réunion Internationale des Laboratoires d’Essais et de Recherche sur les Matériaux et les Constructions.

The Liaison Committee has established two Committees, one is the Joint Committee on Structural Safety (JCSS) established in 1971 and the other is the new Joint Committee on the GLOBE Consensus (JCGC). The Liaison Committee has two meetings a year and the current secretariat is held by CIB.

At its meeting in November the Committee dealt with matters arising from the change of chairmanship and rapporteurs of the JCSS, and approved a press release about the new JCGC. More updates will be published on the websites of CIB and the other member associations as they occur.

The chair of the JCGC and lead author of the GLOBE Consensus to which CIB has signed up is Michael Havbro Faber of Aalborg University. The CIB Board was pleased to invite Michael to join its dinner session during the Copenhagen Board meeting in October 2021, and he spoke passionately to Board members about the programme of work to support the agenda to combat built environment’s contribution to climate change. He took away a strong message that CIB’s agenda and work programme is highly aligned to that of the GLOBE Consensus and the JCGC. The CIB is currently looking to confirm its representative on the JCGC. This would be good experience in representing a leading NGO at a senior level in a vitally important topic area, more information is available from Don Ward if you are interested.
