Renewable energy sources are expected to provide 30–40% of the world’s primary energy in 2050. These will play a critical role in achieving the United Nations Framework Convention Climate change targets, COP 26, and UN Sustainable Development Goals. A key element for attaining these is capacity building in renewable energy technologies. The main objective of this international conference on capacity building in the renewable energy sector is to disseminate knowledge in the area of novel renewable energy research, technologies and policies. The conference will also serve as a platform for knowledge transfer and capacity building in the vocational and higher education sector of developing countries. Within the global context, there is limited platform available for enhancing the knowledge exchange and training facilities in targeting both vocational and higher education sector in the area of renewable energy technologies. The International conference on capacity building of the Renewable Energy Sector (IRES) is expected to provide a future global network in developing the RE sector’s future skill mix.
The conference is initiated under the project “Training Hub for Renewable Energy Technologies in Sri Lanka-THREE LANKA”, which is funded under the Erasmus+, capacity building for higher education sector. The overall aim of the Three-Lanka project is to develop the required skill levels in Sri Lanka for sustainable development in RE sector by encompassing successful knowledge exchange with EU universities.
