We invite chapter contributions for an edited volume to be published with Routledge (Taylor & Francis), titled Inclusive Design for the Built Environment: Global Diversity, Accessibility, and Performance.
About the Book
This book offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary examination of inclusive built environments, highlighting global practices, theories, and case studies that advance accessibility, diversity, and equity in architectural and urban design. It defines inclusivity broadly—encompassing disability, gender, age, culture, and socioeconomic status—and explores how these dimensions shape design outcomes across varied cultural and geographic contexts.
The book will bring together contributions from academics, practitioners, and policymakers to:
- Define inclusivity in the built environment.
- Showcase cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural approaches.
- Share global case studies of housing, workplaces, public spaces, and cities.
- Explore enabling technologies, policy frameworks, and performance indicators.
- Identify barriers and propose strategies for more equitable and resilient environments.
Suggested Themes
We are aiming for 12 – 14 chapters. Contributions may address (but are not limited to):
- Part 1: Inclusivity Concepts and Contexts
- Part 2: Designing for Diversity
- Part 3: Inclusive Performance and Technologies
- Part 4: Global Perspectives and Future Directions
Intended Audience
The book targets undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, and professionals in architecture, urban design, real estate, construction, facilities management, social policy, and sustainability. It will also serve as a resource for policymakers, disability advocates, NGOs, and industry leaders working toward accessible, equitable, and future-ready cities.
