IFireSS 2023 – International Fire Safety Symposium Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, June 21st to 23rd, 2023

Presentation

IFireSS is a CIB W014’s Fire Safety Symposium that takes place every two years in different parts of the World. The Symposium aims to contribute to the exchange of ideas and knowledge of the best what is being done in fire safety engineering and plan the future of the area.

CIB W014 Commission is an international network of experts in the area of fire safety who meet regularly and collaborate in international projects, and exchange information on a voluntary basis. One of the CIB W014 objectives is to provide the research and exchange of information between the members on fire safety. The organization of this Symposium is a way of achieving this objective.

The International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (Conseil International du Bâtiment) is the worldwide network of building and construction experts who improve their performance through international co-operation and information exchange with their peers. The aim is to improve the quality and impact of research and innovation activities in the sector. CIB was established in 1953 with United Nations’ assistance, and it holds special UN consultative status.

IFireSS had its first edition in Coimbra, Portugal, in 2015, the second edition took place in Naples, Italy, in 2017, the third edition took place in Ottawa, Canada, in 2019. These last three editions were a success of participation with the presentation of articles of great scientific value. The next edition that should have taken place in 2021, was postponed due to the Covid19 pandemic, and will finally take place in 2023, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This Symposium’s edition will once again be a milestone in fire safety. The topics of this Symposium are various and transversal to the fire safety area. The congress will surely result in high-quality proceedings and special editions of scientific journals.

Brazil is a country of continental dimensions, with accelerated growth at various levels and in particular in fire safety. The holding of this congress in Brazil comes at a time when the country is restructuring the regulations and standards and trying to create new research platforms in the area. Rio de Janeiro is a cosmopolitan city of unique natural beauty known throughout the world where its “Cristo Redentor” will receive this Symposium and its participants with “open arms”.
