ESG project receives CIB Vistas funding

A project to facilitate the effective adoption of ESG in the construction industry by developing an ESG baseline assessment and reporting framework for constructing infrastructure projects is to be the recipient of CIB Vistas funding in 2025.

The purpose of the CIB Vistas Programme is to promote, collect, market, and disseminate a suite of global, visionary research and thought leadership centered around the future of the built environment and its impact on people and the planet. A fund of €10,000 has been allocated to support this aim, and is available to successful applications.

This successful project, which is led by Robert Osei-Kyei, aims to facilitate the effective adoption of ESG in the construction industry by developing an ESG baseline assessment and reporting framework for constructing infrastructure projects drawing on experiences and practices from 10 economies; South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, U.K., U.S.A, and India. The project will adopt both quantitative and qualitative research approaches to achieve the research objectives.

Through the CIB Vistas funding, the research team will be able to recruit a research assistant to assist with the collection and analysis of data from different countries. Further, this funding will support the research team to attend conferences to present the project outcomes and findings to the academic community.

Research Team

The project is led by Dr Robert Osei-Kyei, a senior lecturer in construction project management at Western Sydney University (WSU). Dr. Osei-Kyei is a member of the CIB W122 PPP commission and has research expertise in Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), construction project management, net zero and circular procurement practices.

Associate Professor Xiaohua Jin from, WSU, Australia. He is a Joint Coordinator for the CIB Working Commission W055 Construction Industry Economics with research expertise in construction economics and construction project management.

Distinguish Research Prof. Albert P.C. Chan from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HK. He is the Dean of Students and has research expertise on PPP, project management and health and safety.

Dr Joseph Ofori-Kuragu from Anglia Ruskin University, U.K. He is a Senior Lecturer and has over 20 years of industry experience in project management.

Prof. Yongkui Li from Tongji University, China with research expertise in project management and megaprojects.

Caleb Boadi is a PhD student at WSU, Australia and his research topic is on ESG framework and reporting for PPP projects.

The research team will report on their findings in due course, which will be published on the CIB website
