Three outstanding early career researchers presented their doctoral research at CIB’s first ever Best Doctoral Research Awards competition on 3 November. Over 30 members attended the event. The top 3 who were selected to present were:
- Dr. Esmaeel Eftekharian completed his PhD in Infrastructure Engineering Western Sydney University, in 2021, and is currently a senior postdoctoral research associate in School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. His thesis title was “Investigation of Buoyant Plume Wind Enhancement”
- Dr. Jessica Borg completed her PhD at RMIT University in 2020 and is a Lecturer of Organisation, Work and Management at RMIT University. Her thesis was titled, “Work Readiness of Project Management Graduates in Construction: A Multi-method Multi-vocal Qualitative Study”.
- Dr. Ahmed Daoud completed his PhD at London South Bank University in 2021 and is an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at British University of Egypt. His thesis was titled, “Materials Procurement Conceptual Framework for Minimising Wastes in the Egyptian Construction Industry”.

CIB would also like to recognize and thank three outstanding judges for their scholarly service in reviewing the written applications, engaging in insightful discussion with the top 3 finalists and selecting the overall winner.
- Dr. Graeme Larsen, University College of Estate Management, Reading, UK, and Coordinator of W065, Organisational and Management in Construction.
- Dr. Theo Haupt, Mangosuthu University of Technology, South Africa and CIB Board Member
- Dr. Andrew Agapiou, University of Strathclyde, and Coordinator of W113, Law and Dispute Resolution
Dr. Esmaeel Eftekharian was declared the winner of the event and will be awarded € 1,500. As runners-up, Drs Borg and Daoud will be awarded € 500.
