Every three years, the CIB holds the World Building Congress (WBC) to connect the international building community, discuss the latest research, share insights and inspiration to improve projects worldwide, and create lasting networks for future collaboration.
WBC2022 will focus the building community’s attention on making our world a better place to live. The future of the built environment is full of possible ways we might respond to the challenges of the present. Which future will we build, and how? The aim of WBC2022 is to inform practice to enhance the lives of current and future generations. Submit your abstract today and join us (in Melbourne or online) in Building Our Future.
WBC2022 Themes
- Climate change and environmental sustainability, including construction and demolition waste and sustainable supply chains;
- Addressing poverty and inequality, especially through access to appropriate social and affordable housing;
- Digital Construction/Construction 4.0;
- Smart built environment/smart cities/smart communities including transport networks;
- Industrialised/offsite construction/pre-assembly;
- Responding to COVID-19 – how the built environment supports health and well-being and how construction and the built environment contribute to economic recovery.

Experienced and new researchers are encouraged to attend the Congress. Only original abstracts that have not been published or presented at other meetings will be considered. Full research papers, reviews and case studies will be considered through the review process.
The conference has a strong reputation for working with established publishers. Papers may be put forward for publication with our publishing partners. Publication of papers will be made through CIB, and selected papers will benefit from our strong association with scientific journals.

When submitting an abstract or paper, authors must choose one of the following categories:
