The congress provided an excellent platform for us to exchange knowledge and ideas with researchers and practitioners from all over the world. Our commission’s presentations and discussions on digitization of the building permitting process, the psychology of construction dispute negotiation and innovative delay analysis techniques were well received by the audience.

The next CIB World Building Congress (CIB WBC 2025): is scheduled for 19-23 May 2025 at Purdue University, Indiana, USA . We hope that you plan to attend

Upcoming workshop – The application of digital technologies in construction litigation and dispute resolution

In the upcoming months, we have planned several events and activities that will continue to strengthen our commission’s mission. We are organizing a workshop on “Digital technologies and Construction Law” that will be held in collaboration with our industry partners. This workshop aims to explore the latest developments and advancements in the application of digital technologies in litigation and dispute resolution for the construction industry.

New book publication – “Alternative disputes resolution in the construction industry: an evaluation of UK research and practice”

In other news, we are pleased to announce the publication of a book: ‘’Alternative Disputes Resolution in the Construction Industry : An evaluation of UK research and practice’’ (ISBN 978-1-80441-086-8). This book traces the history, development, current status and future direction of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in the UK construction industry. It draws on the largest collection of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors-funded surveys on Scottish and English disputants’ perceptions and attitudes to ADR. It includes an examination of the key legislative and regulatory principles relating to ADR in the Construction sphere, North and South Hadrian’s Wall.

Commission co-ordinator and scientific officer opportunities

I would like to thank all of you for your continued dedication to our commission’s work. Your contributions have been invaluable, and we have achieved a great deal over the past years.   Our commission has been working hard to stay abreast of the latest legal developments and to develop innovative approaches to dispute resolution.

As part of this effort, we have been exploring ways to enhance our commission’s leadership structure. To this end, we are inviting members who are interested in taking on a leadership role within the commission to apply for the positions of Co-Coordinator and Scientific Officer.

As a Co-Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to help shape the direction of our commission’s work, while also building your leadership and organizational skills. As a scientific officer, you will play a crucial role in driving our research efforts and ensuring that our commission remains at the forefront of legal and dispute resolution developments.

To apply for either position, please submit a brief letter of interest, outlining your qualifications and motivation for taking on a leadership role. We encourage all members to consider this opportunity, and we look forward to hearing

Final words

If you would like to invite a colleague to join our commission, share news or research ideas to encourage collaboration, please let us know. We then intend to periodically circulate a W113 update in autumn 2023.

Finally, I would like to thank you again for your ongoing support of our commission’s work. We are committed to driving progress in the field of legal and dispute resolution, and we could not do it without your dedication and expertise. I look forward to continuing to work with all of you in the year ahead.
