Thomas Uhd is Head of Sustainability & External Relations for the global cement and concrete producer Cementir in the Nordic & Baltic region.
He supports the business units with sustainability strategies, roadmaps and initiatives, external communication and market positioning, and public affairs. In this conversation he talked first about his unusual background and how he came to work in the field of sustainability in the built environment. Then he covered some of the key points of his keynote presentation for WBC2022 in Melbourne in June 2022, including the challenges of the non-negotiable need for the cement and concrete industry to reduce its associated CO2 emissions, given that concrete looks set to be a staple material for the built environment for a long time to come.
He discussed the importance of collaboration with the whole value chain including clients and designers and with research institutes and universities. He looked forward to attending the Congress to gain insights, meet new people who otherwise wouldn’t connect and who maybe see the world differently, and to in-depth conversations leading to potential future collaboration.
