Scope
This Code of Ethics applies to the CIB Board and the CIB General Secretariat. It does not apply to CIB Commissions or CIB Members individually .

The CIB Board and Secretariat are the product of many different cultures, as would be expected of an international organization. While it is acknowledged that local customs, traditions and mores differ from place to place, the values of honesty, integrity, and a reputation for scrupulous dealing are global. The following principles are based on that starting point.

Principles of the Code
The Board and Secretariat shall:

  • have full regard to the public interest as well as to Members’ interests
  • at all times act with integrity so as to uphold the reputation and standing of CIB
  • comply with all relevant laws and regulations applicable in the countries in which they transact business
  • discharge their duties with complete fidelity and probity, particularly in matters concerning confidentiality and honesty
  • deliberately avoid any perceived or real conflict of interest
  • not maliciously or recklessly injure or attempt to injure, directly or indirectly, the professional reputation, prospects or business of others
  • ensure that the workplace of the CIB General Secretariat is a safe and clean environment, free of any violence or threatening behaviour
  • discriminate on the grounds of gender, race or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, marital status, creed, nationality, disability or age
  • maintain accurate records of all expenditure of CIB funds
  • report to the President any behaviour they believe to be illegal or unethical.

There will be no compromise on these values when making decisions about accepting or expelling Members, or making appointments to the Board, Committees, Commissions or Secretariat.
