CIB Sebestyén Future Leaders Award 2024 – deadline extended
Sebestyén Future Leaders Award

The submission date has been extended to 30th April for the CIB Sebestyén Future Leaders Award 2024.

The award is named after the late Prof. Gyula Sebestyén, former CIB President (1971-74) and Secretary General (1980-1993), and was launched as the CIB Gyula Sebestyén Award in 2002.

CIB Student Chapters are invited to submit proposals for projects that are in line with the CIB objectives for the Sebestyén Future Leaders Award. The Award is worth up to 2500 Euros.

Background

The purpose of the CIB Sebestyén Future Leaders Award is to expose future leaders of the built environment to the latest developments in building research. To be considered, the CIB Student Chapter must actively collaborate with one or more CIB Commissions in the development and execution of the proposal, and support the Work Program of a Commission. The proposal should demonstrate a new collaborative link between student(s) and the Commission.

Preferred Scope

Preference will be given to proposals with defined outcomes that address the CIB Vistas Programme mission, vision and values, outlined here.

Award

The winning proposal will receive the sum of €2,500 payable in two equal amounts, the first on award and the second on submission of an acceptable final report (see below).

Generating a Proposal

Proposals should be to carry out an agreed project with one or more CIB Commission. The proposals should include evidence that the Chapter has discussed and agreed the nature of the task(s) with the relevant Commission. Once a Chapter has finalized a description of the project in collaboration with the relevant Commission and has obtained the agreement and support of the Commission Coordinator(s) in writing, that Chapter can enter a proposal for the Award.

Submission of Proposals

There is a limit of one submitted proposal per Student Chapter, therefore, it may be necessary for the Student Chapter select the best proposal from their University.

Proposals must:

  • describe in detail the task the Chapter and the Commission have agreed will be carried out by the Chapter
  • include a statement from the relevant Commission Coordinator certifying that the Chapter has actively collaborated with the Commission in developing the proposal and that agreement has been reached between the parties as to the description of the task
  • indicate a date when a report on the outcome of the proposal will be submitted to CIB, no later than 12 months after confirmation of the Award, and preferably by end 2024.

Closing date

Proposals must be sent as a pdf file by e-mail to the CIB Programme Manager at [email protected] no later than 30 April 2024.

Proposal Assessment

The judging panel, to be appointed by the CIB Student Chapters Committee, will assess proposals on the extent to which they are likely to contribute to the following, as appropriate:

  • promotion of CIB and its objectives
  • stimulation and facilitation of information exchange between existing CIB Student Chapters and the established senior researchers and research leaders in CIB Commissions
  • demonstrates a new collaborative link between student(s) and the Commission
  • stimulation and facilitation of cooperation in research and other activities carried out by students and staff related to CIB Student Chapters.

The judges will take account of:

  • the practical feasibility of the proposal as demonstrated in the proposal and endorsed by the relevant Commission
  • the likelihood that the project described in the proposal will be completed within 12 months from the judges’ decision, preferably within the calendar year 2024
  • writing style, readability and flow, impact and originality and creativity.

Reporting

The Award winner is required to report on the project outcomes on completion, and the relevant Commission Coordinator will be invited to provide comment on the report. The final report will be made available on the CIB website

The Chapter is also expected to host a webinar to disseminate the results to the CIB community.
