Dr. A. Roy Duff

“Roy was a past chair of ARCOM from 1986 to 1988, an esteemed academic of the Built Environment, and a PhD supervisor to many, including me. I worked with Roy from 2002, where he was a major contributor to the Construction Occupational Safety and Health research team here at Glasgow Caledonian University, along with myself and Professor Iain Cameron. He had been retired for some time, but had co-authored several W099 (CIB Working Commission on Safety Health & Wellbeing in Construction) conference papers with myself and Iain Cameron.

Roy passed away on Saturday 8th January after a short illness. I plan to write a more detailed obituary with the help of some colleagues in due course. Roy’s funeral is expected to take place where he lived near Crewe. I will post details later.

Much of the work I do, my anecdotes to aid the learning of my students, even my love of a fine Macallan whisky was learned from this wise, witty and above all honest man. He will be sorely missed.”
