CIB’s Programme Committee recently approved Yingbin Feng as Joint Coordinator of CIB W065, the Working Commission on Organisation and Management of Construction.
According to Dean Mike Kagioglou, “Associate Professor Feng has developed a strong international research profile in the field of organization and management of building and civil construction as demonstrated by his outstanding track record of publications, research funds, and international awards (Premier Award at the prestigious CIOB International Innovation and Research Awards 2014). His leadership experience in major research programs, academic programs and international research organisations would be of great value to support the Coordinator/Joint Coordinator role.”
Dr. Feng joins Dr. Graeme Larsen, University of Reading, as Joint Coordinator. Yingbin’s Personal Statement is as follows:
“Over the past years I have been passionate to participate in CIB conferences, events and meetings and my research career has greatly benefited from the excellent worldwide network provided by the CIB work commissions. It is a great honour to have the opportunity of leading the CIB Work Commission W065 and contribute to shaping its further growth.
I started my research career at National University of Singapore, where I pursued my PhD research in construction project management. Over the past 15 years, I have been conducting research into the challenges in sustainability, digitalisation, industrialisation, safety, health and wellbeing surrounding the management of civil and building construction. My research output has gained national and international recognitions as evidenced by the publications in leading journals and international awards. I was the winner of the Premier Award at the prestigious Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) International Innovation and Research Awards 2014.
I am particularly interested in industry-driven research and passionate in engaging with the industry and enabling research to transform industry practices. Over the past 5 years, I have been working closely with government agencies, private companies and industrial organisations in Australia and internationally on sustainable procurement, work health and safety, and adoption of digital technologies and collaborative robotics in construction. I am currently leading the Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre (SBEnrc) national industry-driven research project – Sustainable Procurement which was driven by industry’s desire to modify behaviours that contribute to unsustainable practices. The project is dedicated to examining key issues across the procurement life cycle and focusses on finding practical ways to improve environmental, social, and economic sustainability outcomes in the housing, building and infrastructure sectors in Australia. This work is well positioned to address industry challenges of recovery and stimulus in a post-pandemic world. By enhancing the traceability and transparency of supply chain management, this work will help to reinforce the path towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, setting new industry standards in sustainable practices.
The COVID-19 pandemic, digitalisation, resilience, globalisation, industrialisation and sustainability set new challenges to the organisation and management in construction. How the research community and industry players would work together and respond to the new challenges will guide the review the Commission’s mission and objectives and research road mapping in the next stage. I am keen to collaborate with the CIB members and leadership team to review the Commission’s research and engagement agenda, embrace the new challenges and enable positive changes in industry practices.”
