The Liaison Committee of Civil Engineering Associations organised a meeting of the leaders of their interest groups on Artificial Intelligence in January 2026.
Each association summarised details of their activities in this field, and all agreed there was great value in being aware of the different work programmes.
The task group identified three areas of shared interest, and it was agreed that the group would meet again in October to share progress in these areas:
- Ontologies to support standard database structures necessary for the consistent collation and analysis of data across the sector.
- Ethics of AI, to ensure its development and use remains fair, trustworthy, and beneficial for all and mitigating risks such as bias and misuse.
- Contracts and regulations governing the conduct of research on this field, including open sci-ence, data ownership and sharing at a sector level.
The members of the task group are as follows:
- CIB: Prof. Piia SORMUNEN, Tampere University, Finland
- fib: Prof. Sylvia KESSLER, University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg, Germany
- IABSE: Dr. Xiaomeng WANG, BBR VT International, Switzerland
- IASS: Prof. Dr. Kam-Ming Mark TAM, University of Hong Kong, China
- RILEM: Prof. Sandra BARBOSA NUNES, Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), The Netherlands
